About this Event:
Backpacking for beginners is a class for people of all ages who are
interested in learning more about the activity. Led by SD Master
Naturalist Tristan Tupy, this class will cover how to research a trip,
what gear is needed, backcountry safety, and places in South Dakota
to start backpacking.
Age: 12 and up, youth with adult

About the Program
Overview:
Learn how to kayak/canoe, cook in the outdoors, cross-country ski, snowshoe, and survive in the wilderness.
These courses introduce folks to practical skills for enjoying South Dakota’s landscape. Classes include kayak and canoe classes on flat and moving bodies of water, skills for how to start a fire and cook on an open fire, and skills for wilderness survival. During the winter months, these courses also include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
