About this Event:

Monday, September 11th | Pollinators | Come for an evening of butterflies, pollinators, and other creatures that inhabit our Pollinator Plot at Pelican Lake Recreation Area. We will tour the plot trail, learn about the importance of all pollinators, identify caterpillars, butterflies, and insects, and discover if a butterfly can remember being a caterpillar. --- Monday, September 25th | Archery & Deer Hunting 101 | Join us to learn about the basics of archery and deer hunting. Learn all about deer, from their habits and how to hunt them, followed by some taste testing. This class is beginner friendly. --- Monday, October 9th | Migration & Waterfowl Hunting 101 | Learn the first steps to getting acquainted with duck and goose hunting with proper calling, decoy and blind set up along with bird identification. --- Monday October 23rd | Fall Campfire Cooking | Learn how to cook with and care for cast iron Dutch ovens. Participants will be making the food, so come hungry! Closed-toed shoes are required for safety.

About the Program

Overview:

Learn how to kayak/canoe, cook in the outdoors, cross-country ski, snowshoe, and survive in the wilderness.
These courses introduce folks to practical skills for enjoying South Dakota’s landscape.  Classes include kayak and canoe classes on flat and moving bodies of water, skills for how to start a fire and cook on an open fire, and skills for wilderness survival.  During the winter months, these courses also include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
